Durga Puja Special: Kaziranga National Park to Open Doors Early

Kaziranga National Park to Reopen Ahead of Durga Puja

Kaziranga National Park, Assam’s iconic wildlife sanctuary and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will reopen for tourists ahead of Durga Puja, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, according to The Assam Tribune.

The park, which remains closed annually from May to October due to monsoon rains and flooding, is renowned for sheltering the world’s largest population of the one-horned rhinoceros. It is also home to tigers, elephants, swamp deer, and more than 500 species of birds. Recognized as the “Pride of Assam,” Kaziranga attracts lakhs of domestic and international tourists each year with its popular jeep and elephant safaris, making it one of India’s leading eco-tourism destinations.

The reopening is expected to provide a significant boost to Assam’s tourism sector during the festive season.
